Mother's Day is just around the corner and if you’re a mom who has β€œfeeling more grounded” on their wish list, then we hope you can get your toes in the grass at one of these green getaways! With plenty of open space and jungle gyms to boot, you can enjoy quality time with your kiddos (OR that quality alone time while the precious monsters get their energy out on the swing set?). Whatever your wish is this Mother’s Day, treat yourself and your family to some fresh air and memory making at any of these Mom-Approved South Bay parks!

El Segundo Parks & Rec - El Segundo

El Segundo Parks & Rec is a playground extravaganza for you and your little adventurers. This park is not just big, it's gigantic, with a generous array of fields, courts, and grassy knolls that will keep both kiddos and adults entertained. We’re talking baseball, basketball, pickleball, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong, horseshoes, cornhole, and shuffleboard games aplenty. A Rec Office on the premises offers easy access to all rental equipment and court reservations. In addition to the two playgrounds suited for smaller and older kids, this pet-friendly park offers plenty of wide-open spaces of lush grass, picnic tables, benches, and BBQ stands. Updated restrooms and Main Street restaurants within walking distance are two more reasons why this park is Mom-Approved!

Valley Park - Hermosa Beach

Encompassing over 5 acres, Valley Park is a staple in Hermosa Beach and for good reason! Close to the beach, but bursting with greenery and shade, the playground at this park is a perfect compromise for enjoying a little sandy fun without committing to the hassle of a full-blown beach trip. There are different play structures for different ages, including swings for all ages and a firetruck that will be your toddler’s new favorite! Unique to this park is a small nature trail, a fire pit (reserve here), and electric car charging options. Parking becomes limited during popular hours, so make plans to spend your morning here for easy access!

South Park - Hermosa Beach

South Park is a hidden gem and local favorite in Hermosa Beach, tucked between Valley and Loma Drive.  We love this park for its unique and creative play equipment including a four-person see-saw, realistic looking boulders for climbing, wooden bridges, a short ropes course, and a giant Apollo that, collectively, will keep your kids busy for hours. (Oh, you don’t know what an Apollo is?? We bet you do - it’s the spinning cone made of nets!) With an abundance of grass and a community garden nearby bringing in the butterflies, you’re sure to find your feng shui. But the coolest thing in South Park has got to be the 2-story cement slide built into the hill. Moms advise to use caution, because it is FAST!

Anderson Park - Redondo Beach

Anderson Park is a large neighborhood park in North Redondo.  It’s got both a pint-sized paradise for the little munchkins and a mega-adventure zone for your bigger rascals. Toddler moms especially love the small-child playground that is entirely fenced in so the little one’s can’t escape! No matter the age, your cuties will be swinging, sliding, and climbing to their heart's content! There is also a lot of open space to run around, trees to spot squirls in, and a path through the park to ride bikes on.  The ice cream truck that frequently stops by is another Mom-Approved plus for this park.

Veterans Park - Redondo Beach

Veterans Park is a great destination for all ages of kids with a spectacular view of the ocean. This park is double the fun with not one, but two playgrounds. There is a small and big kids play structure that’s been recently updated to a pirate theme and includes an interactive pirate ship so your kids can embrace the high seas and let their imaginations soar!  Along with the pirate’s paradise, this location offers an open grassy area to run around in and lots of picnic tables for snacking.  Did we mention the view?  You can also access the upper walking path on the southwest side of the park for a little nature walk. Only downside is you have to pay for parking.

There are a plethora of parks in the South Bay, but not all parks are created equal!  We consulted local Mom and active park-goer, Karen Meloche to help us sort through the scuffle and officially narrow down South Bay’s best parks based on a variety of factors such as quality and creativity of play structures, safe and squishy playground flooring, offered amenities, overall aesthetics, and ease of parking. And just because these are Mom-Approved doesn’t mean Dad can’t have a blast too! Tag us in you’re favorites @southbay.days
